New York State offers a solid sports betting market. With major players in the mix, bettors can easily find a top-rated operator to place a retail sports bet.

How To Sign Up At A Betting Site

The process of signing up for a new player account within a sports betting site in New York is simple.

Select the ‘Sign-Up’ or ‘Join Now’ tab at the provider’s website to begin.

  • Fill out a short registration form with your name, telephone number, address, email, and last four digits of your social security number. The provider will then verify your identity with this information.
  • Operators will also request verification of your identity in document form. Upload your ID to the provider for confirmation. Be sure to fill out the registration form with the exact details of your ID for a quick approval.
  • Be sure to only sign up for one online sportsbook account per provider. If other services are offered, check with support to see if an additional account is required. In most cases, only one account is needed.

If you try to create more than one account, the operator may lock you out, and you will not have access to services until you clear things up with support.

GeoComply

In every state in the US where online sports betting is offered, players must be situated inside the state’s borders to access services. The same goes for New York.

Operators will use geolocation technology to detect whether you are in the state before allowing you to access services.

Your location is detected via GeoComply. Once you sign up for an account, the operator will request you download GeoComply and set up the location detector app for verification.

Sports Betting Apps

A sports betting app is needed to take your gaming on the go in NY. With an app on your iOS or Android device, you can place a bet anytime you like.

A mobile app allows you to place sports bets while watching your favorite team on the field or post a future wager before a game occurs.

Apps are the most convenient form of sports betting and a top choice among bettors.

How Do Sports Betting Sign Up Offers Work?

New players to the New York online sports betting world have access to premium sign-up offers. In general, operators provide standardized promotions to get players active at their site.

The most common deals include a first deposit offer, a no deposit offer, and a bonus bet. These options are a great way to try a site before investing a large amount of cash.

First Deposit Offer

With this option, operators provide you with a percentage of bonus cash based on your first deposit. This type of offer generally requires a bonus code with your deposit.

An example of this deal would be a 100% match on the first deposit worth up to $500. You deposit up to $500, and the sportsbook adds the same amount in bonus cash to your account.

There are wagering requirements connected to this deal, as well as most deals offered by sports betting providers.

Be sure to read the full terms and conditions to ensure you understand the promotion. If you are unsure about any of the terms, contact support for confirmation.

No Deposit Offer

Like the first deposit deal, this offer also provides you with bonus cash. However, with this promotion, you do not have to deposit to access funds.

The site offers you a certain amount of free bets to try out its services. This deal will be subject to specific terms, and you will most likely have to deposit to cash out any winnings.

Bonus Bet

This is one of the more popular deals offered by online sportsbooks. Let’s say the offer is a $100 bonus bet. A bonus bet is an amount of cash you can wager that the casino will provide back in bonus cash if your bet loses.

Wager this amount, and if you lose the bet, the site provides you with $100 in bonus cash. If you win, nothing happens, and you get to keep your winnings and bet again if you like.

Seneca Niagara Casino

Located near Niagara Falls, the sportsbook here offers similar amenities to its sister properties. However, the hours are better, with options for late-night betting throughout the week.

Tioga Downs

The Tioga Downs venue has teamed up with FanDuel to launch a branded sportsbook featuring 2,600 square feet of space. There is a large video wall on-site with three sports tickers providing information on featured events.

Turning Stone Resort & Casino

Offering The Lounge with Caesars Sports, Turning Stone was one of the first sportsbooks to open in the state. It includes VIP seating along with a large video wall for game viewing. The property offers betting via tellers or self-service kiosks.

New York State Sports Betting Laws And Tax Rates

Sports betting first launched in New York in 2019 in retail form. It was not until 2021, when Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the state budget into law, that mobile sports betting was approved. The language inside the budget allowed online wagering to be legalized.

The original online tax rate is set at 13% for online operators. However, this percentage may increase to a much higher rate as the bidding process begins for licensing.
