You’ll not find a more popular sport to bet on in India than cricket.

Not only is it the most watched sport but approximately 80% of all sports bets placed in the country are on cricket markets.

It’s not hard to see why either – with the huge range of events, tournaments, leagues, and formats, there are so many betting opportunities to enjoy.

The widespread growth of online sportsbooks along with increased smartphone usage means sports betting has seen a huge increase in recent years.

It is exceptionally easy to register and bet at an online sportsbook, while there are many to choose from, all with a range of different markets.

We’ll take a quick look now at one of the most popular cricket betting markets in India – most sixes.

Most Sixes Betting Odds Explained

When betting on the most sixes market, you are betting on quite a specific thing to happen within a cricket match, namely which team will score the most sixes.

A six is scored in a cricket match when the ball crosses the boundary without touching the ground after being hit by the batsman.

It is the maximum score you can claim off one ball in cricket so it is sometimes referred to as a ‘maximum’.

Whether the team wins the match or scores the most runs overall does not affect this bet.

A team can lose and score fewer runs overall, but if they hit the most sixes, then that team will win the bet.

It is purely a measure of the number of sixes scored.

The odds for the most sixes will give three options.

This can be seen below in an example from an ODI match between India and Australia.

Most Sixes – Match

  • India 1.85
  • Draw 9.40
  • Australia 2.20

As you can see from the odds, India is the favourite to score the most sixes in the match.

This is shown by the low odds of 1.85, with Australia not far behind at 2.20.

The biggest odds are for the number of sixes to be tied, meaning both teams would score the same number of sixes in the match.

At odds of 9.40, this is deemed unlikely.

Most Sixes Market Overview

How many sixes will be scored in a match varies greatly depending on the format of the game and the strategy adopted by each team.

For example, Test cricket would usually require a steadier approach to batting, so batters aren’t often tempted into fast scoring.

Meanwhile, the more urgent and intense nature of T20 cricket or ODIs would usually bring a need for more aggressive batting and therefore more sixes.

It should also be noted that balls are harder in limited overs cricket, making sixes easier to hit, while the boundaries are also shorter.

The most sixes market does not require a prediction of exactly how many sixes will be scored, just if one team will score more than the other.

So, it’s more about the style of play of a particular team as well as the form and quality of individual batsmen.

Logic dictates, then, that if you know that a particular team is very attacking or they have batsmen who like to hit big, they will have a higher chance of scoring the most sixes.

However, if you want to place a different bet on the sixes in a match, then you can look at the under/over market.

This is when a bookmaker chooses the number of sixes that may be scored in a match and you bet on whether you think the real total will be under or over that number.

An example of this is below:

  • Total sixes – Match
  • Over 15.5 1.81
  • Under 15.5 1.89

If you want to increase the odds with the sixes market, the best option is to join the sixes market with the match winner market.

In the example match given above, the odds would improve to the following:

  • India To Score Most Sixes & India To Win The Match 2.00
  • Australia To Score Most Sixes & Australia To Win The Match 3.20
  • India To Score Most Sixes & Australia To Win The Match 5.50
  • Australia To Score Most Sixes & India To Win The Match 6.00

Most Sixes Betting Rules

Here are just a few things to consider when betting on the most sixes in cricket.

The Result Doesn’t Matter

The team that scores the most sixes doesn’t have to be the match winner.

If you know that one team has some big-hitting batsmen who will go for maximums regularly, then they might be worth a bet, regardless of whether you think their team will win the match.

The Format

You can’t place a bet on sixes without considering the format of cricket being played. Different cricket formats call for varying strategies.

Also, it’s important to consider the individual players in each line-up and how they like to play in each format of the game.

Batting/Bowling order

Whether a team bats first or second can influence how many sixes they score.

If the team batting second is chasing runs, then they are more likely to take risks to boost their run totals.

In Test cricket, pitch and weather conditions can change too. This could help or hinder the team batting second.

Most Sixes Betting Strategy

It’s a good idea to have a betting strategy to maximise your chances of winning.

Random picks can be fun, but they don’t always bring the most consistent success, so a betting strategy can help.

Here are a few tips to look out for when formulating a betting strategy for most sixes betting.

Home Advantage

The home team will be more familiar with the ground and the conditions, so it gives them an edge when it comes to scoring runs.

They will have played those boundaries many times and have a feel for them, so there’s a good chance they will score more sixes in the match.

Coin Toss Winner

The team that wins the toss gets a chance to assess the conditions and decide whether they have a better chance of scoring more runs by batting first or second.

Therefore, you could decide to follow the winner of the toss, trusting their knowledge and expertise to guide your bets.

Know Your Teams

Knowing how teams play, the strategy they usually use, and how they deal with the specific opposition is a great way to work out if they will score more sixes.

For example, you can look at historical data of how many sixes a particular batsman has scored off a specific bowler in previous head-to-heads.

The data is all out there and can help focus your predictions.
