The Bundesliga has some of the world’s best and most lethal forwards, making the top goalscorer race an interesting one to follow.
Last season, Robert Lewandowski scored a record 41 goals, which earned him the title of being the league’s top goalscorer. Since no other player in Europe’s top 5 leagues matched his tally, he also won the European Golden Shoe.
Lewandowski has now topped the Bundesliga goal-scoring charts in six different seasons. He needs to be the top goalscorer one more time if he wants to match Gerd Müller’s record of seven top goalscorer awards. So, unsurprisingly, the Polish forward is the bookies’ favorite this season.
However, the likes of Erling Haaland and Andre Silva could dethrone Lewandoski and are worth keeping an eye on.
How Is The Winner Decided?
The player who scores the most goals in the Bundesliga is crowned as the league’s top goalscorer. To honor that achievement, the top goalscorer is awarded a miniature trophy—a top scorer cannon, known as Torjägerkanone in German.
This award is what it sounds like; a miniature cannon that symbolizes the attacker’s goalscoring achievements.
Bundesliga Top Goalscorer Betting Odds Report
Lewandowski is the bookies’ favorite and many believe that he’s destined to win his seventh Torjägerkanone, which would help him match Gerd Müller’s record.
However, Haaland has been improving season after season and will want to prove that he can outscore Lewandowksi before a potential big-money move.
Andre Silva and Patrik Schick could also surprise many bettors this season and shouldn’t be ignored.
The Favorites
Robert Lewandowski – For the past few years, Lewandowski has undoubtedly been the world’s best striker.
He guided Bayern Munich to the treble in the 2019/20 season and could have won the 2020 Ballon d’Or if the award wasn’t canceled. In the 2020/21 Bundesliga season, he scored 41 league goals and broke Gerd Muller’s long-standing record for most goals in a single Bundesliga season.
Lewandowski still has other records in his sight, and it doesn’t look like his goalscoring feats will stop any time soon.
Erling Braut Haaland – Haaland is probably the most in-demand youngster in world football. The Borussia Dortmund star war the top scorer in last season’s UEFA Champions League, and he also scored 27 league goals for Dortmund; a tally that was only bettered by Robert Lewandowski and Andre Silva.
With a potential big-money move on the horizon, he’ll surely want to increase his value by scoring several more goals this season.
André Silva – Silva was a surprise star last season. He scored 28 league goals for Eintracht Frankfurt and helped them finish in fifth place.
After starring for Frankfurt, he earned a move to RB Leipzig, and he’ll be eager to prove that his form last season wasn’t a fluke.
Patrik Schick – Patrik Schick scored only nine league goals for Bayer Leverkusen last season, but his starring role in Euro 2020 is what earns him a place on this list.
He scored 5 goals in the summer tournament and won the silver boot and the goal of the tournament, in addition to guiding his country to the quarter-finals.
This season, he’ll want to build on his impressive Euro 2020 campaign and also better his previous 9-goal tally.
Andrej Kramarić – Kramarić has been one of Hoffenheim’s most consistent players. Since he joined the club, he’s scored more than 80 league goals for Hoffenheim, including 20 goals last season.
This year, he’ll be looking to lead the line once more and possibly guide Hoffenheim back to the UEFA Champions League positions.
The Contenders
Wout Weghorst – Wout Weghorst, a Dutch Forward, has also been a steady performer for VfL Wolfsburg. He scored 20 league goals last season and was instrumental in guiding Wolfsburg back to the UEFA Champions League.
Since he’s still in his prime, he’ll be hoping to repeat or better last season’s performances.
Lars Stindl – Stindl may be an attacking midfielder, but he’s been Borussia Mönchengladbach’s main source of goals in recent seasons.
He was the team’s top scorer last season with 14 goals, which is a tally that was only bettered by six other players in the league.
Thomas Müller – Depending on how Julian Nagelsmann chooses to position Müller, the German international could prove to be a great attacking threat.
He scored 11 league goals last season but also got 18 assists as well. If something happens to Lewandowski, Bayern could count on Müller for the goals.
Florian Wirtz – Wirtz has taken over as Bayer Leverkusen’s newest teenage sensation. Though he’s an attacking midfielder, he still scores lots of goals and also manages to assist his teammates as well.
He scored five goals for Leverkusen last season, but he’s started this season well and should easily surpass his tally for the previous season.
Alassane Pléa – Alassane Pléa scored 6 goals last season and will be looking to improve on that. He’s managed to reach double digits in four of his last five league campaigns, and he’ll definitely want to prove that he can do it again this season.
Serge Gnabry – Gnabry has been one of Bayern’s standout stars in the past few seasons. Aside from providing goals for the likes of Lewandowski, he also scores a lot as well.
Last season, he scored 10 league goals, and in Bayern’s treble season, Gnabry got 23 goals in all competitions.
