Sooners Vs. Longhorns | Prop Bets | Oct. 7

As college football fans, we are all aware of when big games are taking place across the country.

This weekend, while our Canadian friends to the North are celebrating their version of Thanksgiving eh, CFB football fans south of the border will celebrate the 119th matchup in the great Red River Showdown.

It’s a Saturday in October.

It’s Week 6 of the CFB Season.

It’s Texas vs Oklahoma.

Let’s freaking go!

Quinn Ewers 284.5 Passing Yards

In honor of our Canadian chums celebrating with some Turkey, we will start our Red River prop selections with a Thanksgiving gift for everyone.

Quinn Ewers and his 284.5 passing yards total is a present for all prop bettors.

Here’s why.

Because this is the Red River Showdown and not just a regular season football game for these two teams, we should expect some fireworks.

This year, Ewers is 3 for 5 at going OVER this total. However, the two times he threw less than 290 yards were against Rice and Wyoming.

Or, to put it another way, they were against the two teams where Ewers wasn’t necessarily trying to run up the score.

However, in games against Alabama, Baylor, and Kansas – Ewers easily went over this number.

Red River Showdown Bet #1: Quinn Ewers OVER 284.5 Passing YDS -114 (FanDuel)

Jonathan Brooks 95.5 Rushing Yards

When scripting a game for prop betting purposes, I rarely take a QB and an RB on the same team to go OVER their totals.

My personal strategy is to predict whether a team will run or pass the ball with great success.

This week, I think Texas has a shot to do both.

Looking at their schedule so far this year, it’s no surprise that Oklahoma has made it to week six while remaining undefeated.

The Sooners rushing defense is ranked just inside the top 30 for total rushing yards allowed.

With 133 D-1 schools, inside the top 30 isn’t too bad.

However, Oklahoma’s big tests defensively have been Cincinnati and SMU. Neither team is Texas when it comes to scoring points.

Presumably, the Sooners have spent most of their first five games playing with a lead… often a big one.

I don’t suspect they are going to blow out Texas like they did Ark State or Tulsa.

Meanwhile, J-Brooks has gone off for 488 yards in his last three games, an average of over 160 rushing yards per game.

I don’t think Brooks gets to 160 this week, but I do believe 100+ yards is totally in play.

Red River Showdown Bet #2: Jonathan Brooks OVER 95.5 Rushing Yards -114 (FanDuel)

A Prop Parlay Better Than Pumpkin Pie

Canadians are known for two things away from the ice rink:

  • One, they celebrate Thanksgiving six weeks early.
  • Two – they are sometimes nice.

Today’s parlay is in honor of our sometimes nice neighbors to the North.

We call it our Canadian Thanksgiving Special – here’s why.

Parlay LegsFanDuelDraftKings
Ewers Over Passing YDS284.5 | -114293.5 | -105
Brooks Over Rushing YDS95.5 | -11499.5 | -115
Texas OVER 33.5 Points-113-125

In betting and in life, we have options.

In the case of our Canadian Thanksgiving Special parlay above, we actually don’t have options.

If you compare the odds from two of our favorite sportsbooks, FanDuel is really the only place we would feel comfortable placing this bet.

A $10 wager pays out $34.58 – plus we get to cheer for Matthew McConaughey and his Longhorns to score a lot of points.

Hey, Steve Sarkisian – I’m not saying you have to score a lot of points:

BUT….

Happy Thanksgiving to our sometimes friendly neighbors to the North.

Wishing you the best of luck with all your CFB Week 6 picks and parlays.
