Thanks to the popularity of propositions, a few DFS sites now offer props in a variety of ways.
At Underdog, recently rebranded from Underdog Fantasy, players who are interested in player propositions can go to the site’s pick’em section, where all the players’ higher/lower stats are listed.
Aside from this, you can take part in ‘Rivals Pick’ems’, where you’ll be able to place two players in a matchup contest.
Since this is a fantasy sports site, you’ll be restricted to player propositions as team propositions and game propositions are unavailable.
However, at Underdog, the range of player propositions is good enough to rival most DFS sites and even a few sportsbooks.
To help you figure out your entrance to propositions contests on this site, here’s an in-depth guide.
How To Enter Proposition Contests On Underdog App
If you want to place a propositions entry—also known as a pick’em—on Underdog Fantasy, here’s how you can do so:
- Launch the Underdog Fantasy app.
- Use your account details to sign in.
- Head over to the pick’em section.
- Select the Higher/Lower tab.
- Choose the sport you’re interested in. A list of player propositions will appear.
- You’ll need to select a minimum of two players and a max of five.
- Head over to the entry.
- Enter your entry amount in the appropriate space.
- Click submit to confirm your player propositions pick’em.
Underdog Proposition Entry Builder
A propositions builder is a nifty tool that lets players design unique, customized propositions.
Instead of settling for the proposition options offered to you by a site, you can use this tool to create your own unique alternatives, thus giving you more freedom and allowing you to chase more value.
That being said, proposition builders are pretty hard to come by as very few sportsbooks are willing to give players such an edge.
Since Underdog Fantasy isn’t a sportsbook, they don’t have a proposition builder feature, so you’ll have to settle for the basic player prop options for NFL at Underdog and other sports that the site offers you.
What Is Underdog Proposition Contest?
Propositions contests—short for proposition entries —tend to focus on unique angles and propositions.
While conventional entries focus on the winner of a game or a team to cover the spread, with propositions, the focus is usually on something else, e.g., which player will score the game’s first touchdown or the total number of goals that a striker will score.
Proposition contests come in different varieties.
Some propositions cover player-related propositions, while others focus on extremely niche occurrences.
Before you focus on a specific proposition contest category, it’s best to first educate yourself so that you may know the types of props you can place.
Underdog Player Propositions
On Underdog Fantasy, proposition players are limited to player props.
In such propositions, the focus is usually on player-related stats such as receiving yards, rushing yards, goals, assists, points, and touchdowns, just to name a few.
Basically, just like in a sportsbook, a player will be given a stats in either of the above stats, and you’ll then have to place a higher/lower entry based on what you think is going to happen.
Here are a few examples of NFL player propositions that are commonly offered on Underdog Fantasy:
- Baker Mayfield Lower 266.5 Passing Yards
- Devonta Smith Lower 4.5 Receptions
- Dak Prescott Lower 8.5 Rushing Yards
In the first proposition, Baker Mayfield has to record 267+ passing yards.
Devonta Smith has to notch at least 5 receptions, while Dak Prescott needs 9+ rushing yards for the above prediction to be accurate.
On Underdog Fantasy, a 3-leg player proposition like this would have a 6x payout.
So if you choose all the above picks and risk $10 on this player proposition, your payout would be $60 ($50 profit + $10 stake) if all the player predictions turn out to be accurate.
Team Propositions
Team propositions are entries that focus on a specific team’s performance. Just like player propositions, the focus of such propositions is usually stats.
However, instead of player-related stats, team propositions focus on team-related stats.
Most of the team propositions you’ll come across will focus on stats such as goals, points, yellow and red cards, etc. You can even enter a contest on a team to score X amount of points in a specific half/quarter.
However, since Underdog Fantasy only offers player propositions, you can’t place team propositions on the site.
If you’re interested in such propositions, consider checking out some of the sportsbooks that we’ve reviewed.
Game Propositions
Game propositions usually focus on game-related propositions, especially ones that involve both teams.
Examples of such propositions include things like the expected margin of victory, race to x amount of points, whether the game will go into overtime, half/quarter with the most points, and odd/even scoreline, just to name a few.
Just like we mentioned in the previous sections, Underdog Fantasy doesn’t offer game propositions.
Novelty Propositions
If you keep up with the Super Bowl or other notable sporting events, you’ve probably seen some extremely wacky entries that tend to deviate from the big game, such as entries on how long the national anthem is going to be.
Essentially, these are novelty propositions.
To put it simply, novelty propositions are propositions entries that focus on extremely niche occurrences, and most of these entries usually focus on things surrounding the game rather than the game itself.
Again, Underdog Fantasy doesn’t offer such propositions.
Propositions Contests Strategy
Most people think of propositions as fun entries.
This may be true to some extent, but propositions still provide players with many money-making opportunities.
If you want to be successful in proposition entries and profit from this alternative, you have to implement the right strategies.
Fortunately, we’re here to help you out.
Here are a few propositions contest strategies that shrewd players need to keep in mind:
Always Reference Stats
For some reason, players tend to disregard stats when they are placing proposition entries.
In reality, most propositions, especially player propositions, still hinge on stats.
Instead of blindly backing a player because they have an extremely alluring line, you first need to do your research to ensure that there is value in going for that player.
Don’t Rely Too Much On Luck-Based Propositions
This may not apply to Underdog Fantasy since they don’t offer such propositions, but it’s still worth mentioning.
Luck-based pops, such as a coin toss or an odd/even entry, wholly depend on luck, and this throws your predictive ability out the window.
To gain an edge over a sportsbook, always go for picks that you can handicap, and this means avoiding luck-based propositions as much as possible.
Limit Your Investment
Truthfully, despite how fun propositions are, they have a lot of variances and can be extremely hard to nail down.
For this reason, it may be better to place your efforts and investment in other less-volatile alternatives such as moneyline entries and point spreads.
We’re not restricting you from placing proposition entries; you can still do so occasionally. However, they shouldn’t be the bulk of your entries.
Propositions are a perfect entry to include in your next same game multileg entries at Underdog.
